IMMORTAL LIFE

-Immortal-

No one likes the thought of growing old. We all are drastically desired to be immortal like The GOD we worship or the Vampire Klaus mikaelson of The Originals but far away from touching it.

There are so many living creatures, Who have achieved biological Immortality like:-

In Animal

JellyFish: Turritopsis dohrnii

Hydra

In Plant

Aspen Tree

Aspen Tree is an excellent example of biological Immortal tree. Each Tree can live 40-150 years above ground but the root system of Colonal Colony is long lived. One plant of the same Colony is pando estimated to be 80 years old.

Meaning:-

Biological Immortality is a state in which the rate of mortality from senescence(cell death) is stable or decreased Whereas The achievement of infinite life span is known as Immortalization.

Immortalization

Most of the normal cell have a finite life span of 20-40 generations. Most of the Tumor cells have infinite life span, as they go on producing continuous cell lines

Control of finite life span of cells

The finite life of cultured cells is regulated by about 10 senescence genes. These genes synthesize product acts as dominant and inhibit the cell cycle progression

Immortality can be achieved ?

We do strongly believe that Immortality can be achieved. Some genes like:-

  • Rb gene
  • p53 gene
If we make these gene inactive We can achieve Immortality. These gene inhibit the cell cycle progression.

Immortalization of cell by Viral gene -

Several viral genes can be used to Immortalize cells. These are:-

  • SV40LT
  • HPV16E6/E7
  • hTRT
  • Ad5E1a
  • EBV

Among the above viral genes, SV40LT is most commonly used to induce Immortalization. This gene's product binds to the senescence gene such as Rb and 53 . This binding restricts the survelliance activity of senescence gene.
As result the genomic instability and activity increased, leading to further mutation favouring immortalization.

Humans' Immortalized Fibroblasts

yes, Fibroblasts of our body has been successfully immortalized by viral gene SV40LT. But the process is complex and have very low possibility i.e. in 107 cells.

Immortalization of cell by Telomerase induction

Telomerase - a special structure at the end of a chromosome, prevents continuous loss of DNA during Replication.

The most important cause of finite life span of cell (i.e., senescence) is due to telomeric shortening, followed by apoptosis(cell death).

If we possibly transfect cell by hTRT telomerase gene, the life span of cell can be extended and
we can live not forever but longer.
